Complete Guide to Ready-to-Wear Sarees (2025 Update)

Everything You Need to Know About Pre-Stitched & One-Minute Sarees

Ready-to-wear sarees have changed the way women wear sarees—whether it's for work, travel, festivals, weddings, or daily wear. In this guide, you’ll learn what a ready-to-wear saree is, the different types, who it is ideal for, how it fits, common mistakes to avoid, and how WiMO designs the perfect one-minute drape for all body types.

This is the ultimate reference guide before buying or converting your saree into a ready-to-wear saree.

What Is a Ready-to-Wear Saree?

A ready-to-wear saree (also called pre-stitched or one-minute saree) is a saree that is stitched to your body measurements so that:

  • The waist pleats are properly set and stitched to fall and stay in place

  • The pallu pleats are also stitched for those who want it pleated

  • A petticoat comes attached with it if you want this option

  • You can wear it just like a wrap around, tie the inner layers with the thread and clasp the pleats layer with the hook.

At WiMO, we retain the original look of your saree while giving it a structured, flattering drape every single time.

Types of Ready-to-Wear Sarees — And Why Customization Matters

Many customers don’t realise that there are several distinct types of ready-to-wear sarees. Most sarees sold online—on platforms like Myntra, Ajio, and Amazon—are generic stitched sarees made in a single standard height (usually around 39 inches) and with hooks placed to fit a broad waist range.

These mass-produced versions often lead to:

  • Incorrect height → saree becomes too long or too short

  • Poor pleat proportions → pleats may fan out or look bulky

  • Unbalanced pallu length → too long for some, too short for others

  • No measurement check → no one verifies waist, height, or drape preferences

  • One-size-fits-many compromises → works only for very few body types

Since these brands don’t contact customers for measurements, everything is stitched to a standard S/M/L size range, which cannot guarantee a perfect drape.

How WiMO Is Different

At WiMO, we are among the very few brands in India that create fully customised ready-to-wear sarees — made exactly to your measurements and preferences.

When you order a ready-to-wear saree from our collection:

  • You are asked for your exact waist, hip, height, and heel preference

  • You can choose options like attached petticoat, pleated or free pallu, drape style, etc.

  • If any measurement looks unusual, our team contacts you personally on WhatsApp to confirm

  • We clarify, correct, and guide you so the saree fits you perfectly

  • Your saree is stitched only after your measurements are verified

This ensures:

  • Perfect pleats

  • Correct pallu length

  • Accurate height

  • Comfortable fit around the waist

  • A drape that flatters your body shape

This level of customisation is what sets WiMO apart from the generic stitched sarees sold online.

How to Choose the Right Ready-to-Wear Saree

Choose the correct fabric and design

  • Lightweight flowy fabrics: georgette, chiffon

  • Traditional: Silks, Zari Border, kanjivaram, kalyani

  • Office: cotton, linen, maheshwari, chanderi,

  • Weddings: silk, shimmer, designer

  • Festivals: Kasavu, silk, kalyani

  • Travel: linen, georgette, lightweight prints

  • Party: designer, space silk, zimmy choo, shimmer, sequin, satin

  • Slimming effect - satin silk, georgette, chiffon

Ensure correct measurements

This is where most beginners make mistakes. Provide correct waist, measure at the place where you wear the saree, not above or below. Give exact height, not an approximate.

Indicate your heel preference, WiMO adds 1.5 inches for heels if you opt for it.

Choose your preferences correctly

  • Opt for an attached petticoat for sarees that are transparent (Organza, net for example) and very delicate (chiffon for example). This gives a seamless appearance and eliminates the transparency issue. Alternatively, avoid an attached petticoat for heavy sarees like kanjivaram or banarasi silks that are thicker and heavier

  • For a classic, structured look or hassle-free office wear, choose a pleated pallu. For a more relaxed, glamorous style—and if you’re comfortable managing it—opt for a loose pallu. Check these videos to see how a loose pallu and a pleated pallu look:

    Pleated Pallu: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vwXhZTV0t8c

  • If you wear heels most often, select Yes for this option. You can easily adjust the saree by moving it slightly up or down on your waist, depending on whether you're wearing heels or not. Alternatively, if you rarely wear heels, select No for this option. It will always work for the rare times when you wear small heels

Ready to wear saree with stitched blouse

  • Opt for a stitched blouse if you want a complete ready-to-wear solution that you can wear immediately upon receiving. However, achieving a good fit with an online-stitched blouse depends on providing accurate measurements. Choose this option if you’re confident about sharing precise measurements.

  • These are the blouse measurements you need to provide online: https://www.readytowearsaree.com/ready-to-wear-saree-with-stitched-blouse
Ensure that you have someone else taking your body measurements. Its impossible to take accurate measurements yourself. Here's a detailed video showing how to take body measurements for a saree blouse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3uhzGk74f0

Plus Size, Petites and Special Fits

One of the biggest advantages of a custom ready-to-wear saree is fit.

At WiMO:

  • We regularly stitch for plus size customers and petite heights.

  • We adjust pleats and flare so that the saree flatters your body instead of adding bulk.

  • For tummy-friendly fits, we suggest cutting the extras fabric on top so that it doesnt add bulk to the pleats

  • For elderly customers or those with mobility issues, we take extra care with measurements and stitch with comfort as priority.

Common Mistakes People Make With Ready-to-Wear Sarees

  • Incorrect waist - While we provide up to five hooks at the waist to allow minor adjustments, some customers share a larger waist measurement assuming it will help accommodate weight changes. This can actually affect the overall look of the saree. Key elements such as pleat placement, hip shaping, and pallu length are all calculated based on your current waist measurement. If this measurement is inaccurate, the fit and drape of the saree will be compromised.

  • Incorrect height - Height is a critical measurement and cannot be estimated or approximated. Unlike waist adjustments, altering height requires undoing the entire stitching and reworking the saree. For the best fit, your height must be shared accurately. Additionally, please mention your heel preference clearly, as the final saree length is calculated keeping this in mind.

  • Selecting the wrong options - no attached petticoat for a transparent saree like organza

  • Wearing it lower or higher than usual - this will alter the saree drape as it is stitched based on your regular preference

  • Expecting a stiff fabric to look flowy - Some fabrics, such as organza, are naturally crisp and stiff. While a ready-to-wear saree helps by holding pleats firmly in place and giving a neat silhouette, it cannot alter the inherent nature of the fabric. Organza will always have a stiff fall rather than a fluid drape, and it’s important to choose fabrics that align with the look you want to achieve.

  • Expecting manual-drape perfection: A ready-to-wear saree is designed to give you a nearly perfect drape with minimal effort, and it comes very close to the look of a manually worn saree. However, its important to understand, since it is stitched to fixed measurements, it cannot be adjusted on the body the way a manually draped saree can.

FAQs - Saree Conversion at WiMO

How long does it take if I place an order online?

It takes 10 working days for us to dispatch, after you place the order and the measurements are confirmed. We need this time as the sarees are custom made to each individual. We don't pre stock the sarees but procure after the order is placed, and stitch as per the given measurements.

I’m plus size / very petite. Will a ready-to-wear saree suit me?

Yes. Ready-to-wear actually works beautifully for plus size and petite customers because the pleats and flare are controlled. We stitch completely to your measurements.

Does a ready-to-wear saree look like a normal saree?

Yes—nobody can tell! The construction is internal; the outer look is traditional.

Is it comfortable for long hours?

Yes. Most women find it more comfortable because there is no tucking or pins poking. There's no fear of the saree loosening and slipping down or the pleats falling apart.

Do you stitch the blouse as well?

Yes, blouse stitching is optional but highly recommended for the best look. You can choose necklines, sleeves, back designs, pads and closures.

Does the ready to wear saree look like a normal draped saree?

Yes. From the outside, it looks like a regular saree. The difference is only in the inside construction and the speed of wearing it.

How many pleats do you give? Can I choose?

The standard number of pleats is 5. If you have a preference (more pleats / fewer pleats / narrower pleats), just mention it while ordering. We will let you know if its possible, based on the saree length and your own measurements.

What if the fit is not perfect?

If there is any issue with fit, you can contact us. In many cases, we can help solve the issue over a call or WhatsApp using our guidance. In other cases we may ask you to send it back to us or we pick it up for alteration, based on the situation.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship completed ready-to-wear sarees to several countries including the US, UK, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. International shipping charges will be shared at the time of order.

How do I get started?

Simply select the saree and place an order online on our website or WhatsApp us. We’ll guide you from order placing to final delivery.

Can I convert my own saree into ready-to-wear?

Yes — read our step-by-step guide here

Will I fit into the stitched ready to wear saree if I gain or lose weight?

We give 5 hooks on the waist for an adjustable fit and to take care of any size changes!

How does the ready to wear saree work with or without heels?

If you wear heels, we add 1.5 inches to the saree length for a perfect drape. Without heels, simply adjust by wearing it slightly higher on your waist—just like jeans. For versatility, select "Yes" for heels during checkout.

Do you have premium ready to wear sarees for weddings?

Yes, we have ready to wear sarees in all cost ranges - affordable everyday wear, mid range sarees, premium party wear designer sarees, luxury range "the couture edit" suitable for weddings and grand occasions

Do you cut the saree to make it ready-to-wear?

By default, we don’t cut the saree—we fold it to your height and stitch it, just like traditional draping. For heavy or thick-bordered sarees, this may create slight bulk at the waist. If you prefer a sleeker finish, we can cut the saree at the top, but the choice is completely yours.
